Tata Power's arm commences 150 MW supply to Kerala

Tata Power's subsidiary Maithon Power Ltd has commenced 150 MW supply to Kerala with immediate effect.

"The power plant of the company's subsidiary, Maithon Power Ltd, has been able to commence 150 MW supply to Kerala with immediate effect, while the balance 900 MW was already being supplied on long term basis", Tata Power said in a filing to BSE.

"With this, the entire 1,050 MW is now being supplied to procurers on long term PPA (power purchase agreement) basis," the company said.

A PPA is a contract between two parties, one which generates electricity (the seller) and one which is looking to purchase electricity (the buyer).

According to company's website, Maithon Power, a joint venture of Tata Power and DVC, has set up the 1,050 MW (2X525 MW)units near Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

The project is country's first 525 MW unit thermal power plant using subcritical technology and the first PPP venture plant in the nation, the website said.
