Tata Motors to use Marquardt keyless system in new SUV

When the two global premium sports utility vehicles (SUVs) being jointly developed by Tata Motors and its luxury sports vehicle arm

British Jaguar Land Rover code named Q501 and Q502 hit the roads in India in 2016, they are likely to come with German key less go system or what is known as a passive-entry passive-start systems.

In other words, no keys would be needed to start these new vehicles.

The engine can be gunned into life at the touch of a button and the system will automatically unlock or lock doors.

The five-seater Q501 and seven-seater Q502 would eventually replace the Tata Safari and Tata Aria respectively. Marquardt, a Germany-based specialist of mechatrionic components, electronic switches and switch systems, is developing this key less go system for Tata Motors.

“We have received the largest contract in India from Tata Motors to deliver key less go smart key or passive-entry passive-start systems for their various upcoming models of passenger cars,” Harald Marquardt, CEO at family owned Marquardt Group told FC.

He said the first dispatch would be delivered to Tata Motors in the third quarter of 2016 without disclosing volume. “Because of high volumes, smart devices will not be expensive, besides adding value to the car,” he said. Marquardt also added that “the delivery package per vehicle includes key, control unit, antenna, door sensor, electronic steering lock and a start-stop button.’’ He said initially the stock would be imported into India from its factory in China and later manufactured here.

At present key less access, security and ignition all in one system are found in most advanced luxury vehicles such as Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Chrysler.

An approach within a few feet of the vehicle and the key less go stem in the pocket is detected and the vehicle doors lock instantly. Likewise, exit and doors lock automatically lock and the car is completely immobilized. “It eliminates the need for a traditional ignition switch and provides hands free vehicle access and security for any vehicle,”
