The benchmark Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) index Sensex fell by over 136 points in early trade on Friday on sustained selling by investors amid mixed cues from other Asian markets.
The 30-issue BSE barometer was trading 136.92 points (or 0.48 per cent) lower, at 28,332.75 as stocks of infrastructure, power, auto and FMCG sectors, witnessed heavy profit-booking.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty slipped below the 8,600-mark by falling 44.90 points (or 0.51 per cent), to 8,589.75.
Meanwhile, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1,428.72 crore on Thursday, as per provisional data released by the the domestic bourses.
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down by 0.21 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei rose 0.08 per cent in early trade on Friday.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.65 per cent lower in Thursday's trade.
