Delivery-based volumes hit one-year high

The delivery-based volumes on the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have risen to one-year high during the current month.

According to data compiled by the Business Standard Research Bureau, the delivery ratio---the percentage of shares actually changing hands in relation to the total traded quantity — rose to 48.5% in March 2015.

Earlier, in March 2014, more than half or 51% of the total traded shares had converted into delivery, before the general elections, the stock exchanges data shows.

In past three months between December and February, the delivery based trading saw steadily decline from 46% in December 2014, to 44% in January 2015 and 43% in February 2015.

Delivery based trading means buying shares and holding them for certain period of time is called delivery based trading. The shares you bought will be in your demat account.

Meanwhile, the delivery based buying shows sharper rise towards the closure of the financial year, the historic trend shows.

Among the sectoral classification, information technology, finance, refineries, cigarettes, mining, sugar, personal care products, food processing, fertilizers and textiles sectors have seen rise in delivery based trading.
