Airtel Q1 net up 24% at Rs 1,554 cr q-o-q

Telecom major Bharti Airtel Q1 reported a 24% rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,554 crore for the quarter ended June 2015. It was Rs 1,255 crore in the previous quarter ended March 2015. On annual basis, the net profit increased 40% from Rs 1,109 crore posted in the year-ago period. Strong consumer demand for voice and data services led to the strong numbers.

The total revenue rose marginally by 3% to Rs 23,670 crore as against Rs 23,016 crore in the previous quarter.

The data ARPU rose by Rs 42 to Rs 181 during the quarter. The company made a one-time gain of Rs 1,431 crore during the quarter on account of Africa tower sale. The India EBITDA margin was at 40.4% as against 38.57% in January-March 2015.

On Tuesday, the company's stocks on BSE closed 1.2% lower at Rs 413.70 apiece.

The company announced Nilanjan Roy as Global CFO from August 5. Airtel also announced appointment of Rajiv Mathrani as Chief Brand Officer for its India operations. Mathrani, who was earlier with Pepsico heading its snacks division,  will lead Airtel’s brand positioning, strategic initiatives and associations, Airtel said in a statement. The new appointment was made as former brand officer Mohit Beotra decided to move on from Airtel to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, it added
