JLR to make Evoque at Pune plant

Tata Motors-owned luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover will manufacture the Range Rover Evoque at its Pune facility to support sales growth in the local market.

This will be the fourth vehicle that will be manufactured at the plant, others are Freelander 2, Jaguar XF and XJ.

Production at the Pune plant has tripled since its inauguration in 2011 and this latest development comes as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s plans to expand its manufacturing footprint globally and increasing its production capacity outside of the UK.

Rohit Suri, President of Jaguar Land Rover India, said: “We believe that India is a market that offers significant opportunities for both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. I am pleased to announce the broadening of our locally manufactured portfolio, with the introduction of the Range Rover Evoque. It is already very popular with Indian customers and we will now offer this SUV at an even more competitive price point starting at Rs 48.73 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai (Pre-Octroi). This will enable us to access a wider audience.”

The Range Rover Evoque will be available in a 2.2 Litre SD4 Diesel engine, delivering a maximum power output of 140 kW @3,500 rpm and maximum torque of 420 Nm @2,000 rpm. It will be offered in three derivatives: Pure, Dynamic and Prestige.

Ex-showroom Mumbai (Pre-Octroi) for Pure will be Rs 48.73 lakh, for Dynamic Rs 52.40 lakh and for Prestige Rs 56.21 lakh.

All derivatives will come with automatic transmission, front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, navigation system, fixed panoramic sunroof and terrain response system.

The locally-manufactured Range Rover Evoque is now available for sale, with deliveries expected to begin from early April 2015.

"India is one of Jaguar Land Rover’s top 20 markets globally with sales increasing by 20% in the last three years. The company has had a presence in India since 2009 and since then, both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands have gained significant prominence and popularity in the Indian market. During this time, the dealer network has increased to 22 outlets across 20 major cities across India", a note from JLR stated.
